Tutorial (Recipe) Tuesday: Southern Gravy

White gravy. And biscuits. I can't eat one without the other. Almost. I have been thinking of exploring different combinations of biscuit recipes, but I am going to go ahead and start with my favorite gravy recipe. So very good on a lazy weekend morning. Even if you don't have time to make biscuits from scratch, make this with them! I've had a 2 1/2 year olds approval already.

In my eyes, that is a success.
Forgive me if I get all Paula Deen on you. I don't advise eating this everyday, but worth it on occasion.

4 T butter
4 heaping T all purpose flour
Pepper to taste
Salt to taste (if desired. I always leave it out)
2 c milk

Melt the butter in a saucepan, and when it's all melted add the flour and then the pepper and salt. It will start to get bubbly. When it's really bubbling up (does not take much time), add the milk. Continuously stir until the gravy thickens. 



  1. I have made this many a time, it usually takes a TON of black pepper but it turns out so well with biscuits!
